Dake’s implementation K2.net™ as a solution to the business need rolled out smoothly across the Eskom. At each Distribution business area, the solution was implemented and our Implementation team walked the floors, making sure the system was working properly and dealing with any queries.
Coordination was excellent. It has been altogether a positive experience to our clients. Implementing business solutions is always a challenge and Dake lived up to its excellent reputation. Within 12 months after implementation, Eskom managed to improve reporting to NERSA (number of customers being connected) from 45% through to over 80% across the nation.
The various business functions of Eskom required various business systems amounting up to 470 mainstream operational systems and almost a thousand small custom applications to assist the electricity personnel to achieve their day to day goals. Corporate data is scattered in these systems that are disjoint making it virtually impossible to consolidate and report the performance indicators. The reporting was done involving various manual interventions and sometimes, scarily, guestimates.
Dake proposed and implemented a world class enterprise data warehouse that addresses all the challenges that Eskom had in their BI space. The solution is technology agnostic and perfectly scalable for growing needs of BI in Eskom. The architecture framework has assisted to bring the turn-around times to deliver BI to less than a day and also contributed to real time access to the data. The beauty of the solution is that it caters for the changes in the technology landscape both in the software and hardware. The version control on the metadata allows for flexibility in viewing the data from various points of view in time. This allowed Eskom to produce NERSA reporting accurately and in time to avoid the regulatory fines amongst several other benefits.

Eskom generates approximately 95% of the electricity used in South Africa and approximately 45% of the electricity used in Africa. It has complex processes, which attributed to complex work coordination issues.
Eskom planned to have a robust value chain automation solution in the distribution business unit for 20Â 000 users to address these complex work coordination issues and bring a consistency of processes being followed across the nation.
