Description of Situation

Eskom divisions operate independently and so their IT teams also worked independently for systems implementations. There is an Eskom-wide Architecture Committee that used to oversee the standards of these systems and their implementations. However, when it came to reporting, business intelligence and analytics there are no such standards set for providing guidance to the divisional IT teams.  Even with the advent of BICC (Business Intelligence Competency Center), the situation didn’t change. Thus the organization felt a need for establishing a guiding document with principles and standards to abide by, when it comes to data handling, warehousing, data integration, reporting, BI and analytics.

 Dake team was tasked to facilitate and coordinate a working committee of architects from all the divisions and the prominent technical personnel in the organization. The mandate was to brainstorm, discuss, draft and standardize the principles and guidelines document that serves as a bible for BICC and also to all other prospective projects across the organization that wanted to deal in the BI Space. Though it was a complex exercise, our team has delivered these outputs with rationality and grace.
